Occasionally, we celebrate a Major feast at a mid-week Holy Liturgy. On Thursday August 6th we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Transfiguration of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Traditionally grapes are blessed at the end of the service, so remember to bring a dish of grapes, too.
The fast we will endeavour to keep during the first 2 weeks of August helps us to prepare for the Dormition of our most Holy Mother of God on 15th August. We will celebrate this on the 16th, the Sunday.
Thanks be to God! We have now been in our new Church two years! We moved in on 23rd July 2007. A huge amount has been accomplished through the committed efforts of many Parish members as well as of friends from further afield.
The next big job is the re-polishing of the Hall floor followed by the washing down and painting of the walls and ceiling, etc. This work will freshen up the entire space making it attractive for our own use but also with the intention of renting it out during times we are not using it. The income from this will be a great help towards paying off long-term loans people have very kindly made to enable us to purchase the Church.
The re-polishing will be carried out professionally in August. Then it’s over to all of us to clean up and wield the rollers and brushes again! No need to visit a gym or go jogging to keep fit, just come along and HELP!
A paint chart is in the hall - tell us your choice of colours!
Cleaning the Church In order to keep Church, toilets, hall and kitchen clean, we do need some extra bodies to come on a fairly regular basis to hoover , wash and dust. If you can fit this into your busy routine, please offer to do so. A key can be given to enable you to come when it suits you.
Children’s Classes Classes will recommence in September. As Dasha is taking up a teaching post in London, Pres. Mary will teach again, but needs an assistant to work alongside the young people as they work at their activity. Any volunteers, please for this most important and joyful task?
Children’s Library Children may choose a new book every week; we have a good selection of books suitable for all ages.
Adults’ Library Take a look at this, situated in the children’s room. An excellent library; whether you want to read something light, devotional, doctrinal - we have all you need.
Greek classes These got off to a great start and Christos will recommence these on Sunday 20th September after coffee-time for children and Wednesday 23rd September at 6.00pm for adults. Total beginners are welcome of course! Catechism classes were keenly appreciated, too. These will recommence on Thursday 3rd September at 6.00pm before Vespers.
Congratulations ! to Dasha, Christos and Niki on your new jobs! We will miss you. May God bless you.
Advance notice - Saturday 3rd October is the annual pilgrimage to Holywell in North Wales to remember Holy Saint Winefride. The Holy Liturgy is served in the beautiful Chapel above the Well at 11.00am. This is followed by a Picnic lunch, Blessing of the Waters, including Veneration of the Saint’s relics and finally Vespers to make the day memorable. There is free time to share fellowship together and have a look in the adjoining shop and information centre.
Few of our Parish take this opportunity to share in the Pilgrimage, which is organised by the Chester Community. Making pilgrimages should be an important part of each year for us; setting aside a day to give thanks to God for the Saints who established the Holy Orthodox Church in the British Isles.
If there were sufficient people wishing to go, we could organise transport from the Church, leaving around 9.30am and returning around 5.30pm.
