Newsletter July 2007

THE NEW CHURCH
The former Leyland Lane Methodist Church, Leyland Lane, Leyland, PR25 1TA

We have left it until now before we prepared this newsletter because we wanted the information to be as up to date as possible concerning the purchase of our new home.
During the past week we have received another private substantial loan and, with the agreement of the Archbishop, we are now able to proceed.  Glory to God!

Today, the 25th June, we discussed with our solicitor the final details and procedures which are needed.  The provisional date for the completion has been agreed as no later than Friday 20th July.  Therefore, with God’s blessing, our first celebration of the Holy Liturgy in our new home will be on Sunday 22nd July.  We also plan to hold a Blessing and Vespers Service on the evening of the day of completion at 7.30pm.

Preparing and Cleaning the Church
As the church has not been used for almost a year we will need to clean the new premises inside and out as thoroughly as possible. If you can be available to help and give a day or half a day please contact Presbytera Mary to arrange.
Services will at first be held in the church hall whilst refitting work is carried out in the church itself.  Much of the preparation work can be done by ourselves and over the next few months we will need as many volunteers as possible to help.  Please contact Gregory to offer your help.

Driving to the Church
Please see the map attached.  It is very straightforward to drive there and there are parking spaces on the property as well as on the street.  Please be careful not to block any driveways of the houses.

Public Transport
The 111 bus service runs every half hour on Sundays from Preston City Centre to Leyland Seven Stars and there are many stops to catch it, starting at the bus station, along Fishergate and down Fishergate Hill and then through Lower Penwortham and Lostock Hall to Leyland.  Ask for the Seven Stars stop.
On weekdays and Saturdays the 111 is much more frequent, every 10 minutes, and running late into the evening.   The 115 and 117 bus services also run to Seven Stars on weekdays and Saturdays.
After leaving the bus at Seven Stars turn left along the pavement (past a dental surgery) and keep on that side of the road.  As the road turns right it becomes Leyland Lane and after about 250 metres the church is across the road.
The return bus stop is in front of the small supermarket in the Seven Stars shops on a one way part of Leyland Lane.  Walk back down the pavement on the Church side of the road, bearing right at the New Seven Stars pub and cross the road on the pedestrian crossing.  Turn left and then bear right to the one way part of Leyland Lane where you will see the bus stop.
